Inviting the PhD student for the research “Integration of waste heat flows in the district heating”

Integration of waste (also called excess or surplus) heat flows into the district heating systems has been identified as a significant complementary driver on the road to climate neutrality by delivering primary energy savings. Unused heat flows could partly cover heat demand if suitable technical and organizational conditions have been met. Previous studies have been on waste heat potential assessment and the possibility of heat load coverage. However, the research gap still exists regarding the conditions for broader waste heat flow use if the smart energy system elements are integrated into the energy sector (including smart heat meters, thermal storage.

Study programs «ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING» have been accredited for six years

The international group of experts has assessed the academic Master and Doctoral study programs as excellent and the academic Bachelor study program as good. This fact attests to the competitiveness of these programs on both local and international scale, as potential foreign students are offered these programs in English. The study programmes «Environmental Engineering» of all three levels have been developed, licenced and tested by the FEEE Institute of Environment and Energy Systems within the framework of the European Social Fund project «Reducing Fragmentation of Study Programs at Riga Technical University and Strengthening Resource Sharing». World famous professor in system dynamics David Wheat started his lectures in Riga Technical University

On the 3rd of September guest lectures led by world famous professor David Wheat on system dynamics started for students of “Environmental Science” programme in the Institute of Energy Systems and Environment of the Riga Technical University. David Wheat received his master’s degree at Harvard University and his PhD in System Dynamics at the University of Bergen in 2007. Study “Biotechonomy” online

Institute of Energy Systems and Environment invites everyone who is interested to participate in the online study course Biotechonomy. Biotechonomy is a story about local bioresources and technological solutions for their extraction, preparation, treatment and processing. Study course includes analysis of climate, environmental, economic and socioeconomic aspects of biotechonomy implementation. 10 video lectures will be available online from April 11 until April 22, 2016. Guest lecture on chemicals’ environmental fate and modern risk assessment by professor from Finland

On April 16, at 16:30-19:50 Dr.Arto Sormunen will visit the Institute of Energy Systems and Environment, RTU, to give lectures on chemicals’ behavior in soils/sediments, their environmental fate and factors behind that. Dr.Arto Sormunen will also discuss modern risk assessment methods. The lecture will be given in the Faculty of Power and Electrical Engineering, Āzenes Street 12/1, room 115.
