Fuel testing services
Environmental monitoring laboratory is accredited in Latvian National Accreditation Bureau
according to standart LVS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements


Unburned amount of fuel in ashes is determined using gravimetric method according to standart ISO LVS EN ISO 18122.

Mixing, shredding, drying and splitting of fuel by size fractions regarding of LVS EN 14780 standart.

Determination of moisture content in fuel using oven accordingly LVS EN ISO 18134-1,2,3.

Ash content is determined using muffle furnace Nabertherm and analytical scales Precisa according to LVS EN ISO 18122:2023 standard.

Calorific value is determined using calorimeter system IKA C200 and C2000 according to LVS EN  ISO 18125 standard.

Services of testing boilers
Combustion research laboratory

Measurement is done using flue gas analyzer Testo 350. Client’s boiler is installed in laboratory of Institute of Energy Systems and Environment and connected to a boiler testing stand.

Also the following services are required for services:

  1. The flue gas composition and temperature;
  2. Fuel low heat value;
  3. Fuel moisture;
  4. Temperature on the surface of boiler;
  5. Parameters as temperature, moisture.

Likewise it’s necessary to date measurements of heat meter.

Measurement is done using thermograph Testo 881 according to LVS EN 12952-15:2004 standard.

Measurement is done using equipment Tecora Isostack according to LVS ISO 9096:2018 standard.

Measurement is done using equipment Testo 350 according to LVS ISO 10780:2002 standard.

Services of material and product testing

According to LVS ISO 8301-2001-A1-2011 Thermal insulation. Thermal resistance and determination of related properties in steady conditions. Device of thermal flow measurement.

Testing of materials in climate chamber, simulating different types of impact of environment on them.

Services of biosystem laboratory

Measurements are made in small volumes (100 ml), average volumes and bioreactores (5L and 135L) with continious monitoring of environmental conditions and gas composition. BMP test takes 20-30 days, in the future results are planned to get faster, using mathematical models.

Anaerobic fermentation is possible to do in bioreactors (5L and 135L), in real conditions researching optimal relation of raw materials, regimes of injection, changes of gas composition, pH stability, withstanding time of optimal substrate and other parameters.

Concentrations of gas, volatile fatty acids, long chain fatty acids are analyzed during measurements, to determine processes in bioreactor.

It’s possible to determine both heavy metals in substrate and digestate (also other briought in samples from client ) and its method efficiency of concentration reduction.

Gas Chromatography Analysis

Lab provides analytical testing using Gas-Liquid Chromatography (GC-LC) technique, including selective and highly sensitive detection of trace and molecular species-specific volatile compounds, like Fatty acids methyl esters, Alcohols and Eters, etc.

Gas chromatography detectors:

  • Flame Ionization Detection, (GC-LC/FID)


Liquid Chromatography Analysis

Lab provides High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and separations laboratory capabilities for advanced and routine analysis. Liquid chromatography allows for selective and highly sensitive detection of trace and molecular-species (Polyphenols, Anthocyanins; Glycosides; Flavonoids; Carotenoids, Amino acids, Organic acid and Glycols, etc.).

HPLC detectors:

  • Fluorescence detector RF-20A xs;
  • Diod array detector (DAD) SPD-M40.
