We are starting to implement a project within the framework of the National Research Program “Decision-making support system for achieving climate neutrality goals”

The Institute of Energy Systems and Environment of Riga Technical University, in cooperation with the University of Latvia, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, and Riga Stradins University, has launched the project “Climate Neutrality Decision Models in Action” of the National Research Programme “Decision-makins Support System for Achieving Climate Neutrality Goals”, which was launched at the project kick-off meeting on 14 March. The aim of the project is to create a single national decision support tool for achieving Latvia’s climate neutrality goal. Our institute's team of researchers and commercialization leaders worked not only on the creation of sustainable wood composite boards within project No. KC-PI-2020/32 "Sustainable solutions for biomass plates". Inviting the PhD student for the research “Integration of waste heat flows in the district heating”

Integration of waste (also called excess or surplus) heat flows into the district heating systems has been identified as a significant complementary driver on the road to climate neutrality by delivering primary energy savings. Unused heat flows could partly cover heat demand if suitable technical and organizational conditions have been met. Previous studies have been on waste heat potential assessment and the possibility of heat load coverage. However, the research gap still exists regarding the conditions for broader waste heat flow use if the smart energy system elements are integrated into the energy sector (including smart heat meters, thermal storage.

Looking back at the international scientific conference CONECT 2021

International Scientific Conference CONECT 2021, organized by RTU IESI has finished! This year in order to comply with COVID-19 restrictions, the conference was held online combined with on-site presentations from RTU scientists. Altogether we had participants from 24 countries, including South Korea, India, Mexico, also representing different universities from Latvia. During the first two days of the Conference, scientists gave their presentations on their latest research and results. Following they had the opportunity to test their strength of generating new ideas and use of their knowledge in the creative group event “Apple Garden” and tried to build models to solve institutional.

Looking back at the international scientific conference CONECT 2020

In the mid-May we had one of the most anticipated annual events – international scientific conference CONECT 2020, organized by RTU Institute of Energy Systems and Environment. This year it was a great challenge for participants and organisers because the conference was held online due to the worldwide Covid-19 outbreak. Nevertheless, CONECT 2020 conference was successful and fruitful. The conference was attended by 140 participants from Latvia and 19 foreign countries. For two days scientists presented their latest research at plenary sessions, panel sessions and poster sessions. On the third day the conference ended with a discussion on different scenarious.
