Looking back on the international conference CONECT 2018

In the mid-May we had one of the most anticipated annual events - international scientific conference CONECT 2018, organized by RTU Institute of Energy Systems and Environment. The conference was attended by 80 participants from Latvia and 17 foreign countries. For two days, scientists presented their latest research at plenary sessions and posters sessions. On the third day the conference ended with a technical tour to the new biomass boiler house of AS Jurmalas Siltums and a tour through Jurmala. Below is a link to conference photo galleries. The winner of the prize "RTU Scientist of the Year 2017", habilitated engineering science doctor Dagnija Blumberga with the support of the Nordic Information Center invites to the discussion "Women in Engineering in Latvia". Conference of Environmental and Climate Technologies CONECT 2017

May 10–12 CONECT 2017 took place in RTU EEF. Within these days profesors, researchers, scientists and students from 25 countries presented their publications. Participants came from various continenta and countries – South Korea, Kazahstan, Turkey, Germany, the Netherlands, Baltics and many others. 16 various topics were represented in this conference about the latest solutions, trends, novelties and technological development. The discussed and presented themes were various and related to renewable energy, smart grids, building efficiency, ecodesign, resilience, low carbon development and all linked with an aim of environmental protection and resource efficiency. Environmental Science Award 2017

Environmental Science Award 2017 was held in University of Latvia on March 24 and it was the eighth time when it happened. The aim of this event is to evaluate and appreciate teachers, scientists, non-governmental organisations for the actualising the environmental problems and promoting sustainable environmental science and education. This year, not only four already known nominations were awarded: „The new environmental scientist”, „Environment science teacher”, „Environmental activist group”, „Environment scientist and university pedagogue”  but also „Bio-economy prize” was applied to an enterprise for developing an innovative product with high added value. On 25th September in the Science Night schoolchildren and students took part in creative workshop “Light and shadow game” where they made shadow cinema on the topic of environmental issues by using different kind of natural materials. Project „Elaboration of innovative biomass gasification technology to obtain syngas”

On March 4, 2015 in cooperation with a partner – Institute of Energy Systems and Environment of Riga Technical University, company SIA “Balteneko” entered into agreement No 2/EEZLV02/14/AK/015/002 with the State Regional Development Agency on performance of the project „Elaboration of innovative biomass gasification technology to obtain syngas”. The aim of the project is to reduce impact on climate changes by constructing and demonstrating an innovative and effective low carbon dioxide technological solution (system) for biomass gasification, which includes the main equipment (gas generator) and ancillary equipment. Institute of Energy Systems and Environment invites everyone who is interested to participate in the online study course Biotechonomy. Biotechonomy is a story about local bioresources and technological solutions for their extraction, preparation, treatment and processing.
