What changes, endures.
Rainis, “The Golden Horse”
In the energy sector in Latvia in recent years we can observe the implementation of new, innovative and thoughtful projects. One of the last of these is the initiative of “Salaspils Siltums” Ltd. to start using solar energy in district heating. However, at the very core, we are still living the practice and thinking of 10-20 years or even earlier, which has resulted in the energy sector not developing as it could. No one can deny that in Latvia we still have huge potential in this sector that we are not using. Is this why we can also call Latvia “a land of unused opportunities”? Yes, we can.
Over the past 5 years, Riga Technical University, in cooperation with a number of important partners, has been working on modeling and analyzing the energy sector, developing various financial instruments in the energy sector and putting them into practice. A number of lessons have been learned during these years. One is that a great many of us do not want to meet only the energy requirements of Brussels, as is often the case, but do so because we need it ourselves.
It is time to fundamentally change our thinking and approach to the development of the energy sector, as Rainis already aptly wrote 110 years ago “‘What changes, endures”.
If this issue is important to you and we have ideas on how the energy sector could change and how we can influence it together and individually, we invite you to participate in a conference organized by RTU with partners “Is it time for changes in the Latvian energy sector?”, which will take place on Wednesday, November 27, at RTU Scientific Library, Paula Valdena Street 5, Riga. Registration from 9:15.
Participation in the conference is free of charge, please register in advance by filling out the registration form below.
