Fog Unit: calculation model to describe the operation of the fog unit

Within the framework of the activity 3.2, a program was developed, which includes a calculation model to describe the operation of the fog unit. The program is based on a pre-built mathematical model in the Excel environment (activity 1.3), which has been refined and transferred to another environment, facilitating faster calculations. Program written in PYTHON 3.7 using Visual Studio 2019. It includes the calculation of the thermal-physical parameters, the auxiliary equations and the calculation of changes in the main parameters. The main parameters, whose changes are considered in the model, are: injected water temperature, temperature of the flue gas, diameter.

Horizon 2020 BIOEASTsUP Project Launched!

The project “Advancing Sustainable Circular Bioeconomy in Central and Eastern European countries BIOEASTsUP” is funded by the EU Research and Innovation programme Horizon 2020 and began on 1st October 2019. Over the next three years, the consortium will have 21 partners from 14 different countries and will support the 11 Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries participating in the BIOEAST initiative to develop their national bioeconomy strategies and action plans for the transition to a sustainable bioeconomy. The RTU Institute of Energy Systems and Environment together with the Research Institute of Agricultural Economics from Hungary will develop a virtual toolbox.

Conference “Is it time for changes in the Latvian energy sector?”

What changes, endures. Rainis, “The Golden Horse” In the energy sector in Latvia in recent years we can observe the implementation of new, innovative and thoughtful projects. One of the last of these is the initiative of "Salaspils Siltums" Ltd. to start using solar energy in district heating. However, at the very core, we are still living the practice and thinking of 10-20 years or even earlier, which has resulted in the energy sector not developing as it could. No one can deny that in Latvia we still have huge potential in this sector that we are not using. Is this why we can.

World famous professor in system dynamics David Wheat started his lectures in Riga Technical University

On the 3rd of September guest lectures led by world famous professor David Wheat on system dynamics started for students of “Environmental Science” programme in the Institute of Energy Systems and Environment of the Riga Technical University. David Wheat received his master’s degree at Harvard University and his PhD in System Dynamics at the University of Bergen in 2007. David Wheat is past-president of the economics chapter of the International System Dynamics Society, is a member of the Scientific Committees of the international journals (“System Dynamics Review”, “International Journal of Pluralism and Economics Education”), and is a co-author of several.

Online survey for SMEs

Within the project Test-4-SME an online survey for SMEs has been developed and launched to analyse the quality and capability of testing services and identify the gaps. The survey is conducted in all countries of the Baltic Sea region and its results will be used to improve the availability of laboratory collaborations and testing services. We kindly invite every SMEs which develops electronic products to fill in this survey. Survey is launched online in 6 languages: English Estonian Finnish German Latvian Lithuanian

Seminar “Forest resources in energy sector. Sweden’s example”

Date: Tuesday 24th of January 2017 Time: 11.00–14.00 (Registration starts at 10.30) Venue: Institute of Energy Systems and Environment, RTU, Azenes iela 12/1, Room 607 Language: Latvian and English (without translation) Within the FP7 project SIMWOOD attention has been addressed to the evaluation on innovative strategies and opportunities for increasing the use of wood logging residues in Latvia for energy utilities. The contributions of expertise from academy and energy planners from Sweden (i.e. Linnæus University and Energy Agency for Southeast Sweden) and Germany (i.e. Bavarian State Forest Institute) will be the key to initiate a new discussion toward concrete opportunities in Latvia for higher fuelwood.

Project „Elaboration of innovative biomass gasification technology to obtain syngas”

On March 4, 2015 in cooperation with a partner – Institute of Energy Systems and Environment of Riga Technical University, company SIA “Balteneko” entered into agreement No 2/EEZLV02/14/AK/015/002 with the State Regional Development Agency on performance of the project „Elaboration of innovative biomass gasification technology to obtain syngas”. The aim of the project is to reduce impact on climate changes by constructing and demonstrating an innovative and effective low carbon dioxide technological solution (system) for biomass gasification, which includes the main equipment (gas generator) and ancillary equipment.
