Resource efficiency solutions for circular bioeconomy
The development of the bioeconomy at the local level is one of the three main action areas of the EU’s Updated Bioeconomy Strategy. In order to promote a knowledge-intensive bioeconomy and achieve the goal of increasing the added value set in the Latvian Bioeconomy Strategy 2030, it is necessary to promote the production of high added value bioproducts, especially on a regional scale. However, local stakeholders in counties, such as municipalities, which could promote the choice of resource-efficient bioeconomy approaches, are not fully provided with the necessary decision-making information. For a broader and targeted development of the bioeconomy at the county level, which in turn will promote the overall development of Latvia, a set of resource efficiency tools will be created, which will be based on scientifically based research methods, modeling and the use of county-specific competitive advantages. It is in the regions that the actual development of the bioeconomy is important, because it also contributes to employment, household income, rural development, as well as sustainability. It will be possible to use the approved decision support tool for the creation of bioeconomy strategies of other regions of Latvia. The results obtained in the project will be useful for municipalities, manufacturers, decision makers, etc. interested parties.
